Hydro-mechanical modeling of a vegetated slope subjected to rainfall

Shallow landslides triggered by heavy rainfalls have caused casualties and economic losses to domestic infrastructures industries worldwide. Rainfall mainly reduces the soil matric suction shear resistance, resulting in shallow landslides. Vegetation is an eco-friendly cost-effective method for stabilizing slopes prone This research aims investigate hydrological mechanical effects of vegetation on slope stability through a numerical study approach. Vegetated bare were subjected recorded climate condition two rainfall scenarios high intensity (HI) low (LI). Matric factor safety vegetated investigated. The at surface was approximately four times greater than after HI scenario. However, about three LI results indicate that planting would reduce vulnerability due higher additional cohesion induced root system. These findings suggest using Rasht, Iran, where data collected, has considerable potential slopes.
